Gaining a unified customer view

As an $8.4 billion bank, Nicolet National Bank had plenty of data to leverage, but those data were spread across multiple core systems, preventing staff from accessing one unified view of each customer. The bank needed to undertake a data management journey — and it needed the right strategist and collaborator to guide it.

The Challenge

Nicolet National Bank was producing financial reports for executive leadership, but when it came to the sales team, its disparate core systems couldn’t work together to answer questions like, “What percentage of our wealth management customers are also depositors at our bank?” Having previously engaged Wipfli for financial statement audits and its Salesforce implementation, Nicolet asked the firm for assistance in determining the right data management strategy.

The Solution

Wipfli first worked with Nicolet stakeholders to understand their reporting requirements and business processes and identify gaps. Wipfli then mapped out the bank’s current data processes and data sources against its desired future state. From there, the team created a detailed road map with the steps Nicolet needed to take to get there. Wipfli also created a BI-BUS matrix to plan out a data warehouse structure that would meet Nicolet’s reporting and analytics needs. During the project, Wipfli team members recognized some of the bank’s challenges could be solved by implementing a customer data platform (CDP), so they helped Nicolet review platforms and ultimately select Salesforce’s Data Cloud.

The Wipfli team are true experts. Their ability to break down extremely technical information kept our team engaged and excited. They genuinely wanted to do what was best for us and help us get to where we need to be.
Kelly Fischer, Chief Innovation Officer, Nicolet National Bank

The results

Impressed with the overall road map and detailed deliverables, including the BI-BUS matrix, Nicolet is leveraging Wipfli to continue implementing its data strategy road map and build the bank’s data warehouse. The bank has implemented Salesforce Data Cloud and is working toward completing a unified view of each customer to determine which additional services to market to them and how. Additionally, cleaner data and increased automation via Tableau and Alteryx have helped Nicolet staff save time and make better customer and sales decisions.
