Scaling for growth with an integrated ERP

%
decrease in month-end close time

By moving from QuickBooks to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and integrating the tool with its other critical technology systems, Sage Freight was able to reduce its month-end close time, increase on-time collections, enhance visibility into business performance and set itself up for further growth.

The Challenge

Sage Freight was growing rapidly and could no longer rely on QuickBooks as its financial management software. The company wanted to move to an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that could not only scale with its growth but also integrate with its other tools, including transportation management software Turvo. Sage Freight came to Wipfli for help evaluating ERPs, which led to the selection of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

The Solution

With a robust understanding of how Sage Freight worked as a team and an organization, Wipfli led a discovery and design process that determined how to integrate data from Sage Freight’s systems into Business Central. Then Wipfli implemented Business Central, which included setting up Sage Freight’s accounting within the system, enabling intercompany entries, mapping imports and developing some small API customizations. Wipfli then coached Sage Freight on how to use Business Central and its reporting tools to set staff up for success

Wipfli approached our project like it was their own and treated us like peers. Their team’s willingness to work with our in-house team and develop tailored solutions meant that we were able to do complex things that enhanced the business.

The results

With Business Central, Sage Freight has a significantly higher degree of confidence in its data. Wipfli’s guidance enabled staff to implement new policies, procedures and controls to help ensure not only data cleanliness but also proper checks and balances. Business leaders can also run separate P&L statements for each division and department, giving them a better understanding of how their business unit is performing. Overall, Sage Freight has also been able to decrease its month-end close process from three weeks to 10 days, as well as increase on-time collections by 25%.
