Description
Significant updates to the Head Start Program Performance Standards have been passed.
Wipfli has been on your team for each update and change. Join this webinar to discuss future planning, timelines and what you can do now to meet the new expectations.
These updates focus on three key areas: compensation, mental health services and meeting the evolving needs of communities. Though not all the proposed changes were implemented, enough of the changes were adopted to make an impact.
Some areas we will discuss include:
- Head Start programs must pay staff competitive wages that are at least sufficient to meet the basic cost of living in the local area.
- Smaller agency exemptions.
- Improving staff benefits — health, student loans childcare, etc.
- Improving staff wellness — regular breaks, positive management style clarifications of program-wide wellness support, etc.
- Establishing a maximum caseload.
- Effective, accessible forms of communication in all interactions with families.
- Streamlining enrollment processes to minimize the burden on families.
- Clarification of significant safety incidents.
- Streamlining the process and frequency of the community assessment.
- Revising the definition of income and allowing programs to adjust a family’s gross income to account for excessive housing costs.
- Clarification of ratios.
Learning objectives
- Highlight the new changes.
- Identify what you already have in place that could address the changes.
- Explore next step plans to implement the changes.
