July 26, 2011
Sara Svobodny, a senior compliance specialist based in the St. Paul office of Wipfli LLP, recently earned the designation of certified compliance officer from the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU). Svobodny is among only 1300 compliance officers across the country.
To earn the NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO) certification, individuals must pass four examinations that cover compliance issues in areas such as legislation and regulations, lending, credit reporting, electronic transactions, share accounts and discrimination. The certification is valid for two years.
As a senior compliance specialist for Wipfli, Svobodny is focused on the financial institutions industry and provides a range of regulatory compliance services to the firm’s financial institution clients. Prior to joining Wipfli, she was the compliance officer for a mid-size bank, where she developed and implemented a bank wide internal compliance audit program, wrote and implemented policies and procedure requirements, and acted as the key contact for regulatory reviews. In addition to her NCCO designation, Svobodny is also a certified community bank compliance officer and a certified regulatory compliance manager. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University.
